Winnipeg's rock 'n' roll historian John Einarson
Join Ron Robinson and his guests as the eclectic former CBC Radio host shares books, thoughts, questions and the odd diatribe. Audience participation is welcomed, there's no admission charge, and yes, you can sit and sip your Black Pearl coffee.
John Einarson is a widely-respected rock music historian and writer. He is the author of thirteen biographies on subjects including Neil Young, Randy Bachman, the Guess Who, John Kay/Steppenwolf, and Buffalo Springfield. His critically-acclaimed book Mr. Tambourine Man was acknowledged among the best books of 2005 by both Uncut and Record Collector in the UK and nominated for a 2006 ARSC (Association for Recorded Sound Collections) Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research. His most recent book Hot Burritos: The True Story Of The Flying Burrito Brothers was again shortlisted by Uncut as among the ten best music books of 2008. He has written for television and radio, hosting his own CBC radio series and contributing to television specials on Canadian music history. A Winnipeg resident and retired teacher, John continues to organize a popular annual rock 'n' roll revue at St. John's-Ravenscourt school involving over one hundred students. He is currently writing a biography of enigmatic '60s cult figure Arthur Lee of the band Love, whose Forever Changes ranks among the top albums of all time.
Taller on radio, the former host of the Weekend Morning Show on CBC, Ron Robinson was a founding partner of McNally Robinson Booksellers. His years as the buyer for Eaton's Book department gave him the material for his one man show, The Spirit of Timothy Eaton. He has created and appeared in two other one man shows as Robert Service and Rudyard Kipling at the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival. Karen Toole was first employed in the United Church at the age of 18 in All People’s Missions, and her last full time pastoral position in the United Church was at Augustine United. She received her B.A. from the U of W., and her M.Div from the Atlantic School of Theology.
From there she went on to a counseling and consulting partnership, with Esther Klassen, which they named Soul Seasons.
For nine years she offered a CBC Radio conversation with Ron Robinson called Spiritually Speaking, and her other media role has been to be a faith page columnist in Winnipeg Free Press for fifteen years. Throughout this time she has also offered courses at U of W. in 55 plus, Faculty of Theology, with Creative Retirement and Age and Opportunity.
Currently she is still involved with the United Church as week-end supply at West Hawk Lake, which she has been temporarily doing for thirteen years. Recently she has just accepted the position of Provincial Spiritual Care Coordinator for Manitoba Health.
She’s a reader, a writer, an advocate, who has had a life long passion for the understanding and affirmation of spiritual seeking as pathway to the embracing and celebrating of diversity.

Award-winning young adult writer Anita Daher was Aqua Books' inaugural writer-in-residence over the spring and summer of 2008. Anita has been writing and publishing in Canada for well over a decade, often drawing inspiration from the many places she's been fortunate to spend time in. After being named recipient of the 2007 John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Manitoba Writer, she buckled down and wrote three more novels for juveniles and young adults. Two of them, Racing for Diamonds (Orca) and Spider's Song (Penguin/Puffin) were finalists for the 2008 Arthur Ellis Award for best juvenile crime novel. Racing for Diamonds has also been named a finalist for the 2009 Hackmatack East Coast Reader's Choice Award. Anita lives in Winnipeg, and will always accept invitations for dim sum.
